How it works

The Everest Virtual Challenge runs from 30 May – 12 June 2011. The Everest Virtual Challenge is a walking challenge, where you walk to the virtual top of the world without leaving town.

  1. Get a team together or join a team

Join a team or find up to 15 friends, co-workers or family members who want to get fit, have fun and raise funds to work wonders for sick kids. Encourage other teams in your workplace, industry or school to join the Challenge and race each other to the summit!
  2. Register

Join an existing team or register your team of 15 online here. The registration fee is $25 per team member. Once registered, you will receive a kit including a pedometer and everything to get you started with your fundraising.
  3. Seek sponsorship

Ask your family, friends, boss and associates to sponsor you to take the Everest Virtual Challenge. Funds raised will support much needed medical research, entertainment and volunteer services for sick kids at the Royal Children's Hospital.

Collecting sponsorship is easy via your online fundraising page. You can also collect cash sponsorship but to be in the running for the prizes, money must returned by 5pm, 17 June, 2011.
  4. Get walking

Walk as much as you can from 30 May – 12 June, 2011. The aim is for your team to walk a combined total of 2.1 million steps - the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest. If each member in your team of 15 takes 10,000 steps a day – then you will make it to the summit!

Try walking to work, take the stairs instead of the lift, walk around the block on your lunch break, or organise to go walking with friends a couple of nights each week. Every step you take will be helping your team to reach the top of Mount Everest, while working wonders for sick kids. The Challenge is about being active, stepping up to the challenge and helping sick kids.
  5. Update

Visit the Everest Virtual Challenge website each day during the challenge to enter your daily steps. You can also track your team's progress up the mountain, see how you're going compared to other teams and thank your sponsors for their support.
  6. Win

There are great prizes available for those who fundraise and support the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. Check out the prizes you can win.
