How it works

The Everest Virtual Challenge runs from March 3rd to 16th 2008.

1. GET A TEAM TOGETHER

There's a maximum of 15 members per team. Involve family, friends, community groups, sporting teams, or work colleagues. Encourage other teams in your workplace or industry to join the challenge and see if they can beat you to the summit! If you don't have a team, phone (07) 3852 1199 to register your details, and we'll assign you to a team.

2. REGISTER

Registration is $25 per team member. A nominated Team Captain can register the team online at workingwonders.com.au or phone the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation on (07) 3852 1199. Each team member will need to enter their email address upon registration. Once you have registered, each team member will receive a registration kit, which includes a pedometer with in-built radio/earphones to count their steps.

Registration is open until March 3rd, however to receive your pedometer and registration kit in time for the start of the challenge, please register by Wednesday February 27.

3. SEEK SPONSORSHIP

Ask your family, friends, boss and associates to sponsor you to take the Everest Virtual Challenge. Funds raised will be invested in much needed medical research, entertainment and volunteer services for sick kids at the Royal Children's Hospital.

4. GET WALKING!

Walk as much as you can from March 3rd to 16th. Try walking to work, take the stairs instead of the lift, walk around the block on your lunch break, or organise to go walking with friends a couple of nights each week. Every step you take will be helping your team reach the top of Mount Everest, while working wonders for sick kids.

You may even like to vary your physical activity by combining walking with other activities like bike riding, swimming or going to the gym. Just convert every 10 minutes of any other activity to 1,000 steps of walking.

The aim is for your team to walk a combined total of 2.1 million steps - the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest. Although it sounds like a lot, this is equal to 10,000 steps per person per day for a team of 15 - and don't worry if you can't finish. The challenge is about getting involved, getting active, and helping sick kids.

5. UPDATE

Visit the Everest Virtual Challenge website during the two week event to update your steps. Here you can also track your team's progress, and see how you're going compared to other teams.

6. COLLECT

Collect your sponsorship money by the end of April 2008 and send it to the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation, or deposit at any Heritage Building Society branch. You can win fantastic prizes for your fundraising efforts and help sick kids at the same time.
