Competitive Research Grants for 2008 – 2009 | |
Grant Name | Description |
Research Project Seeding Grant | Specifically for new researchers to encourage RCH & HSD staff to participate in research to be conducted within the District. Intended to allow the initiation of research by an individual, desirably fewer than three years post PhD completion or equivalent, which will form the basis of future applications to external funding bodies.

Research Project Seeding Grant (Established Researcher) | Intended for established RCH & HSD researchers to allow the initiation of new research to increase their subsequent competitiveness for external funding. This grant is not intended to support the continuation of established research. The project must be conducted within the District. Research may be in any area of paediatrics but must be relevant to paediatric needs and be of benefit to patients in the RCH & HSD.

Queensland Regional Research Project Grant | Awarded to an individual or research team, employed by a Health Service District outside of metropolitan Brisbane, for the support of a proposed scientific investigation with mutual interest to the RCH & HSD, the local Health Service and the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation. It should benefit the body of knowledge in paediatrics and have direct relevance to the health problems of children and young people. Multidisciplinary applications are strongly encouraged. |
Allied Health Research Project Grant | Awarded to an individual or research team of RCH & HSD Allied Health professionals for a proposed scientific/qualitative investigation, to be carried out within the District. It should benefit the body of knowledge relating to Allied Health paediatric practice and to health problems of children and adolescents and be consistent with the mission of the District and the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation. Small research projects will be given favourable consideration.

Nursing Research Project Grant | Awarded to an individual or research team of RCH & HSD nursing professionals for the support of a proposed scientific/qualitative investigation which must be conducted within the District. The project outcomes will contribute to the body of knowledge related to paediatric nursing practice and to health problems of children and adolescents and be consistent with the mission of the District and the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation. Small research projects will be given favourable consideration.

Research Skills Development Scholarships For Nurses | To encourage members of the nursing staff, who are novice researchers, to participate in a research project in an area related to Paediatrics under the mentorship of an experienced senior researcher.

Postgraduate Scholarships | Tenable for up to three years subject to satisfactory annual progress reports, providing a stipend for students enrolling for a PhD or Masters at a local university.

“Top-up” Postgraduate Scholarship | Additional funding to attract a postgraduate scholar, who has already been awarded a full scholarship by a tertiary institution, to undertake their research within the RCH & HSD

Clinical Postgraduate Research Scholarships | To provide three years funding for scholars to undertake research in a paediatric discipline on a project relevant to Queensland children and the mission of the RCH & HSD. Scholars must enrol for a higher degree.

Clinical Fellowships | To provide a stipend to allow applicants to work under supervision in a paediatric specialty for 12 months within the RCH & HSD, while also planning a PhD project and receiving tuition in research methodology and biostatistics.

* If applications that meet the specific criteria are not received, or if the standard of applications is not considered to be appropriate, the Foundation reserves the right to withhold some scholarships in any given year.
