Broncos kick goals for sick kids
On Thursday June 12, the WOW Brisbane Broncos arrived at the Royal Children's Hospital to a welcoming committee of eager young fans and their families. Pressing noses to glass, excited kids also looked down from the second, third and fourth floors. Players enthusiastically signed autographs, posed for photos, and even exercised a little target practice with the footy on the front lawn. Not to be left out, sick kids who were receiving treatment or simply were unable to leave their beds were also visited by the players. Mick Ennis, together with Karmichael Hunt are the ambassadors for the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation's fit4fun school program. "It's great to be able to put a smile on the faces of sick kids", Mick said. "You can see they are pretty excited when we visit - and that's a humbling but rewarding experience for us".
Meanwhile...down at the Wonder Factory...the players were introduced to the newly refurbished, entertainment room including the specialist teenage retreat, the extensive book, DVD and game library, and the latest and greatest in gaming consoles. After being interviewed by sick kids in a ‘press conference' through the Wonder Factory's internal TV station, the young patients left the Brisbane Broncos with no option but to show off their other talents. After Corey Parker battled it out at table soccer, David Stagg focussed on colouring in between the lines, and Tonie Carroll almost missed the team bus tussling with the Xbox 360.
CEO Karenlee Spillane said the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation was grateful to the players visiting the hospital to bring a little wonder into the lives of sick kids. "We appreciate the Brisbane Broncos for taking time out of their busy training schedule to visit kids at the Royal Children's Hospital. It was wonderful to see their faces light up when they met their footy heroes."
