Walk for Kids with Cancer
4 May - 2 June 2008In November 2007, Bob Wilson and his wife Carol began planning a walk from Coolangatta to Canberra to raise money for children with cancer. Unfortunately, Bob lost his battle with cancer and passed away in early April. Carol, and their children Kim and Stuart, continued planning and coordinating the walk to honour Bob’s wish. The walk began on Sunday 4 May, with a group of walkers leaving Coolangatta and making their way to Murwillumbah by the day’s end. The walk will conclude in early June when they arrive in Canberra after covering a distance of more than 1200km. The determined group of walkers have all been personally touched by cancer, and live in awe of the courage shown by young people battling the illness. As Bob was going through his treatment, it saddened him that children of all ages were also going through similar treatment, including the grandson of one of his submariner mates who is currently being treated for leukaemia at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane. Bob's ‘Walk for Kids with Cancer' is raising vital funds for the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane, and Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney.
