Challenging Stunt Works Wonders for Sick Kids

The patients, staff and families at the Royal Children's Hospital were treated to a very special sight on Monday 16th November, as three members of the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) of the Queensland Police Service, abseiled down the five floors of the Royal Children’s Hospital building.

The event was to officially launch the Queensland Police Service fundraising campaign: Operation Challenge4Kids which runs from the 16th to the 27th November.

The initiative is the latest in a long-term partnership between the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation (RCHF) and the Queensland Police Service.

CEO of the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation, Karenlee Spillane, said, "The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation is proud to be partnering once again with the Queensland Police Service for Operation Challenge4Kids.

"The Queensland Police Service has been a long-time supporter of the Foundation and we are excited that they have stepped up to take on this challenge for brave kids from all over Queensland who are treated here every year."

Queensland Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson said the Service was honoured to be a part of any event which assisted in the well-being of the community, especially our littlest Queenslanders.

"The partnership between the Queensland Police Service and the Royal Children's Hospital is one which has been forged by a shared focus," Commissioner Atkinson said.

"We each deal with the challenges of life-changing situations and we each encounter the strength of the human spirit in our daily roles.

"The motivation of the Service is to provide support whenever possible. I hope today’s events provide a worthy diversion for sick and injured children who are dealing with trauma, as well as raising vital funds."

In Operation Challenge4Kids, Police Officers and staff of the Queensland Police Service are invited to nominate a challenge to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. To find out more, contact RCHF on 3852 1199.
