What We Do

Ekka visits RCH

Many sick kids at the Royal Children’s Hospital won’t get to go to the Ekka this year – so the Ekka came to them instead!

On 9 August, two days before the Royal Queensland Show opened for the rest of Brisbane, the front lawn of the Hospital was transformed into a miniature version of the beloved event.

There were games, prizes, fairy floss, music, glitter tattoos and celebrity appearances especially for the patients, their siblings and families.

A petting zoo filled with baby animals was one of the highlights of the day. Children had the chance to meet chickens, piglets, lambs, goats, ducks and even a calf!

To make sure everyone was a part of the fun, Brisbane Roar players Henrique, Massimo and Matt, along with Smurfette from the Smurf Show, visited the wards and handed out showbags to patients and their siblings.

Thanks to the Foundation’s volunteers and hospital services staff for helping to run the event, and thanks to the special guests, the Ekka organisers and all those who contributed to bringing the magic of the Ekka to sick kids!
