Ms Bligh made an appearance today at the B105 Christmas Appeal broadcast on side at the Royal Children’s Hospital and handed over the cheque to B105’s Labby, Camilla & Stav.
The cash comes from a windfall through the settlement process of the recent successful QR National float.
“The dedicated staff at the Royal Children’s Hospital take care of sick children from all over Queensland,” she said.
“I can’t think of a better place to donate this money and I commend B105 for the efforts they have made through their annual Christmas Appeal
“The Royal Children’s Hospital cares for our sickest children whether they’re from Cairns, Mount Isa, Charleville or Brisbane.
“Many Queensland families rely on this hospital and their research saves children from around Australia and the world.”
Ms Bligh said that after the successful completion of the QR National float the final settlement of retail shares under the Share Offer was now completed.
Through the settlement process $89,974.82 remains as residual proceeds from the ‘rounding process’ undertaken by the share registry.
“We’ve rounded that up to $90,000 and that’s where today’s donation comes from,” said Ms Bligh.
B105 General Manager Richard Barker said that “For 16 years now, the B105 Christmas Appeal has raised millions of dollars for the Royal Children’s Hospital and it’s generous donations such as these, coupled with the dollars and cents collected on the streets of Brisbane that make all the difference to the sick and injured children and their families”
