What We Do

QTCU’s Yoga in the City

QTCU staff joined young patients in Queen Street Mall last Thursday to raise awareness and funds for Kids Breathe Easy.

Queensland Teachers’ Credit Union are a major partner of the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation through the Kids Breathe Easy program; choosing to direct their support to respiratory research aiming to unlock the mysteries behind chronic illnesses including asthma and cystic fibrosis. One in four Australian children are affected by asthma, while one in 2500 children are born with cystic fibrosis including six year old Jack who joined in the lunchtime yoga session (pictured).

The Royal Children’s Hospital recorded 2265 visits from south-east Queensland children for respiratory treatment, including asthma and cystic fibrosis, between April 2009 to March this year.

RCHF Director of Marketing and Fundraising Meredith Campbell said it was heart warming to see everyday people giving up their time to help kids with respiratory illnesses breathe easier.

“Every year thousands of children are treated at the Royal Children’s Hospital for chronic respiratory illnesses,” Ms Campbell said “Our researchers are looking into ways of intervening and preventing respiratory problems altogether. Through Kids Breathe Easy we hope to help find an ultimate cure for these illnesses and to help give sick kids a better chance at life.”

PIC2_QTCU.jpgQTCU chief executive officer Mike Murphy said he had seen loved ones suffer from the disease and believed every child deserved to be able to breathe freely.

“Through our ongoing fundraising efforts and special events like Yoga in the City, we hope to make a valuable contribution to helping find a cure for kids with respiratory illnesses,” Mr Murphy said.  “No child should ever have to suffer and this is our chance to do something about it.”

Queensland Teachers’ Credit Union’s June Appeal will be running from the 14th – 27th June 2010. Branches across Queensland will be running fundraising events and activities to raise funds, whilst QTCU members and the general public are encouraged to donate online by clicking here
or by visiting any QTCU branch.
