Woolworths' stores in Qld and northern NSW raised a record $1.75 million this year through the Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal.
A number of fundraising activities and events were held throughout the year such as Running4Research, Race Day, golf days, trivia nights, merchandise sales, raffles and sausage sizzles to raise the money for the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation.
The money raised from this year's Woolworths appeal will fund key research at the Queensland Paediatric Infectious Diseases (QPID) lab and the Children's Nutrition Research Centre (CNRC) at the Royal Children's Hospital.
The affectionately titled 'Bug Detectives' at QPID are working to improve a better understanding of paediatric diseases, while research at the CNRC aims to improve the nutritional health of sick kids with other conditions including cystic fibrosis and cancer.
Of the funds raised, $150,000 has been collected to fund medical equipment and paediatric training for nurses in regional hospitals, and $100,000 will be donated to regional allied health staff to fund training, workshops and educational resources.
Woolworths Carindale were the fundraising giants of the appeal, raising an amazing $80,012!
The record breaking amount raised this year can only be attributed to the Woolworths staff for their passion, enthusiasm and commitment to raising vital funds, the Woolworths suppliers for their support and generosity, and to the customers who take part in their local store's fundraising activities.
