Smiley face bales brings in $8,000 for sick kids

The Sunshine Coast's smiley face bales of mulched cane were sold yesterday, raising more than $8,000 for sick kids as part of this year’s Statewide Kids Christmas Appeal.

The 200 spray-painted bales made news around Australia last month after a trio of anonymous Sunshine Coast mothers decided a field at Bli Bli needed brightening up.  SDC15796111111.jpg

Hay baling contractor and farmer Graham Macintyre decided to use the media attention to raise money for charity and donated the proceeds from all bales to the Royal Children's  Hospital Foundation Kids Christmas Appeal.

Sunshine Coast radio personalities, Hot 91’s breakfast hosts Sami, Todd and Dave locked themselves up yesterday morning until they were all sold.  The listeners had to “bail” them out of jail by buying all 200 bales of cane mulch.

Royal Children's Hospital Foundation CEO, Karenlee Spillane said that the money raised through the Kids Christmas Appeal will fund groundbreaking research to discover faster diagnoses, better treatments and ultimately cures to keep sick children precisely where they should be at Christmas time – at home.

Thanks to Graham Macintyre, HotFM and the Sunshine Coast community for their generous support.  For more information about the Kids Christmas Appeal please visit www.workingwonders.com.au
