What We Do

Temperature is rising and so is the Kids Christmas Appeal tally!

On Friday 11th December, the Kids Christmas Appeal took over the Zinc radio airwaves state-wide, together with Sunshine Coast’s Hot 91.1 FM, in an unprecedented effort to raise funds for sick kids across Queensland.

Local sick kids and local hospitals will benefit from the $146,181 raised so far during the 2009 Kids Christmas Appeal.

Popular Queensland visual artist, Kendall Perkins, also joined the live broadcast activities at the front of the Royal Children’s Hospital, where onlookers watched in awe as she painted an original Brisbane skyscraper artwork onto canvas.

Painting professionally for over 15 years, the sales of her artworks and extreme art performance style is so popular, she is often booked 12 months in advance.

With her success in the art world, Kendall keeps her feet on the ground by helping out charitable organisations, such as the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation, and has generously donated the colourful skyscraper canvas to the Foundation, which will be auctioned on graysonline.com in early 2010 as part of the Kids Christmas Appeal.

Funds raised from the Kids Christmas Appeal will be shared amongst eight regional areas across Queensland - including Emerald, Mt Isa, Central Queensland, Roma, Townsville, Sunshine Coast, Cairns and Mackay - to purchase much needed special medical equipment for children.

Money raised in the Emerald area will enable the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation to buy equipment for the Emerald Hospital such as an Atherton Blanket warmer (to provide warm blankets for children and babies who lose heat quickly - such as babies that are cold when born, or children coming into Emergency with shock or coming back from theatre), IV stands, and other medical equipment specifically for children.

In addition to funding research and equipment, the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation funds nursing and allied health training to improve regional health services.
