Bravery Beads are colourful beads given to children after often-traumatic procedures like chemotherapy and blood transfusions and provide our little patients with a history of their journey through treatment at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Each bead is a milestone – a chance to smile – unique to a particular procedure or stage of their treatment. Each child’s ‘bead story’ is uniquely personal – and something they can compare with other kids in hospital, and share with their family and friends. For children like Samantha, Bravery Beads are a welcome distraction during their courageous battle against life-threatening illnesses. In a sense, these little beads are changing the way kids see their illnesses.
