Researcher Snehal Anuj is investigating respiratory pathogens in children with cystic fibrosis.

"The Pseudomonas bacteria is present in most homes but there are particular strains of this pathogen that cause serious problems in people with CF," she explained.

"Because people with CF already have compromised lung function, they are more prone to get infections from Pseudomonas that can lead to severe respiratory infection.

"Our research is focused on identifying where patients with CF acquire the bacteria, and if there are ways to reduce the environmental risks associated with it."

Snehal is passionate about advancing research into cystic fibrosis. "As a disease, CF doesn’t have the high profile of other diseases such as cancer or diabetes, but it affects one in 2500 children born in Australia, and there’s an urgent need to invest more in researching this genetic condition."
