Our volunteer Christmas party will be held on Saturday, 27 November from 11:30am - 3:30pm.  More details to come, but make sure you mark it in your diary. 

2010 Policy and Procedures update

We are rolling out the 2010 P&P update from Monday 11 October for a period of one month.  This training is mandatory and is a legal requirement. 

There is a volunteer register located in the Wonder Factory.  This register is for ALL volunteers including all services such as cuddle carers, theatre volunteers, administration volunteers and information desk volunteers. The training will be conducted in the Wonder Factory.

Volunteers will
• Receive  a paper copy of the updated Policies and Procedures for their specific service
• Watch the Fire – evacuation DVD
• Watch the Manual Handling DVD
• Sign the register when they have completed their 2010 update
• Entertainment volunteers will have a copy of their updated Service Specific Policies and Procedures manual emailed to them this month.

QPID Clinical Trials Group

Would you be interested in participating in a clinical vaccine trial for Dengue Fever?  The QPID Clinical Trials Group at the Royal Children’s Hospital is conducting a vaccine study for a potential new Dengue Vaccine for healthy adults aged between 18 and 60 years.  To be included in the study you must be healthy; not have lived in a Dengue endemic area for 1 year or longer; have never had a Yellow Fever and/or Japanese Encephalitis vaccination or infection; be able to participate for 18 months.  If you would like to know more, please contact the Clinical Trials Group on 07 3636 1567.

Volunteers needed to help with phone calls

We need help calling our previous supporters to ask if they would like to receive our Christmas fundraising pack (it is not cold calling and it is not requesting a donation, these supporters requested our fundraising pack last year).  Calls can be made on week days between 9am and 5pm and any amount of time you can offer will be greatly appreciated.  If you would like to assist, please contact JJ on 3852 1199 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Volunteer needed to help with Experiences of Motherhood Groups – Nundah and Strathpine

Volunteers needed to help with Remembrance Day ceremony

On Saturday 6 November the hospital will be holding its annual Remembrance Day ceremony.  To allow families to attend the ceremony we need volunteers to supervise the children that don’t wish to attend (or only want to attend for part of the ceremony).  If you would like to assist please contact Theresia Murray on 3852 1199 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Coles Sports for Schools

From Thursday 2 September until Sunday 31 October 2010 for every $10 spent at Coles Supermarkets, Coles Online, Bi-Lo and Pick’n Pay customers will earn a Coles Sports for Schools voucher worth 1 point (given at check out).  Please feel free to collect these vouchers and give them to your supervisor who will drop them into the voucher collection box at the Royal Children Hospital State School.  At the end of the promotion, vouchers will be tallied, and the RCHSS will get to go shopping for new sports equipment!  You’ll find more details on the Coles website: www.coles.com.au/sportsforschoools.  

Community Cricket Day

Volunteering Qld, Queensland Cricket, TransLink and Brisbane City Council cordially invite all Queensland volunteers to get together with their friends and family and enjoy a fun filled, free day out at our annual Community Cricket Day.

How to get your tickets?

We have 100 tickets available (remember one (1) ticket admits two (2) people). 
Write your name and how many tickets you would like on the “ticket” list available at your sign in area in the Wonder Factory or Foundation.  Once the tickets have arrived we will either give them to you on shift or pop them in the post.
