A huge "Thank You" and "Welcome" to the new volunteers who joined us at training over last Wednesday and Thursday nights.
Aside from all of the fun emergency procedures and policies and procedures ,we had a great couple of nights and even saw two of our new recruits hit in the face with a cream pie for Wonder Factory TV.
We look forward to seeing you all on shift soon!
This week we welcome Emily Pender and Nathan Mikeleit to the Wonder Factory crew.
We'd like to say a very BIG thank you to the volunteers that came out to assist at the Woolies race day on Saturday. It was very successful, and we wouldn’t have been able to raise the money that we did if it wasn’t for the volunteers!
Our volunteer hours in January were about 2,300 hours with over 4,500 families assisted. Well done and thank you all for what you do to support these kids and their families!
Our two newer services, the Book Bunker and Cuddle Carers, are growing at a nice rate.
In our Cuddle Carers program, in the first few months we saw an average 13 little ones a month. This has now extended over the last few months to an average of 43 children a month.
The Book Bunker Service has grown as well with an increase from our first few months which were averaging 200 books a month to an average of 400 books a month - well done!
If you would like to assist with the Book Bunker chat with Jodi (3636 3674 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) we are still looking for volunteers to assist with this service.
The 2010 seasonal Flu Vaccine protects against three new strains of Flu including the H1N1 (pandemic) strain. The Vaccine will be available from DEM (Department of Emergency Medicine) at the RCH on Friday 26 March from 7:00am - 4:00pm. Volunteers are able to drop into DEM between these hours to receive your free vaccination, you will just need to stop by your volunteer area to pick up a lanyard prior to getting your injection.
If you are getting the Flu Vaccine this year please consider participating in a study to help determine the Influenza strains for the 2011 vaccine. This only involves two blood tests (one before your flu vaccination and one 21 days after); a brief demographic and flu related questionnaire and of course your consent to participate!!! You can consent to participate in this study when you present for your flu vaccination.
