Get Involved

Weekly update, 26 July 2010

Welcome to the new Monday edition of Watch This Space.  This week we're all things Wisecrack Wonders and we welcome some special visitors to the Wonder Factory.  Don't forget to check our Special Projects page for more information.

The Roosters visit the Wonder Factory

Did you see the Wonder Factory on channel 7 news Sunday night?  The Wonder Factory was filled with Roosters team players that were here to present a cheque to the Foundation for $10,000.  The team had an awesome time playing with kids in the Wonder Factory and even managed to star on Wonder Factory TV.

Mounted Police

On Wednesday we received a special visit from two of the mounted police horses.  Private and Christopher patiently accepted all pats, cuddles and pokes from the kids and posed for many photographs.

Wisecrack Wonders

It's all happening this week with Wisecrack Wonders events being held every day this week.  The campaign will wrap up this Friday with the help of Darren Lockyer in a dunk tank on the front lawn of the Hospital.  If you'd like to help with this event, please see the special projects page for more details.

What is Wisecrack Wonders all about?

It’s all about having fun and fundraising to help sick kids in July. It includes Jamie Dunn & 4BC doing a Walk of Life. We also run a parallel online fundraising campaign. This year, Wisecrack Wonders antics will include two major options:

Option 1: DO A DARE!

Darren Lockyer has been dared by Mason (photo) to raise $15k and sit at the DUNK TANK in front of the hospital, getting dunked by kids, Friday 30 July. We are asking some CEOs and MDs to take on a dare as well, and be featured on the Wisecrack Wonder website, gain supporters, donors, and find fame in being funny.

Option 2: HOST A PARTY!

Dress like a kid, eat fairy bread, wear a flower on your head…. Reawaken your inner child and play dress-ups, be a superhero, bring your teddy, eat kid food, wear a flower on your head (we provide the flower sticker!) People who are less daring can click on the option to HAVE A PARTY and fundraise. They will be given a party kit with posters, balloons, flower stickers, kid food recipes, jokes and ideas, jelly lollipops (donated by sticky.com). to register visit workingwonders.com.au and click on the Wisecrack Wonders box.

Is radio 4BC 1116  on board again?

YES! We will be supporting the team at 4BC, who have (once again!) dared Jamie Dunn to do a 40km walk through the city from July 26-30, collecting donations. He will be running a fundraising radiothon (with a donation hotline located right here!)
throughout the week, with outside broadcasts of his brekkie show with Ian Calder from Coffee Club locations 5.30-9am.

4BC will be mounting sausage sizzles Monday and Friday that week, and are promoting this dare as Jamie Dunn’s ‘Walk of Life’.  We will get schools along the route to raft up and donate. Coffee Club is working with 4BC as well, offering a % of proceeds from Jamie’s Big Kids Meal (coffee and a low fat muffin) and each purchase of this also gains entry into a Brisbane ROAR prize draw!

What’s our objective?

We hope to raise $150,000, create lots of fun and engage a new audience of online fundraising individuals, groups, corporates, schools. We also aim to recognise Jamie Dunn and 4BC as Champions for RCHF. And recognise Darren Lockyer (and all the kids) as celebrity champions.

We are currently calling out for volunteers to help with some Special Projects shifts to support Wisecrack Wonders. So check out the Special Projects Page!

Useless Fact of the week

The average chocolate bar in the U.S. contains 8 insect pieces. "The Food Defect Action Levels", a book published by the U.S. Department of Health, lists unavoidable food defects allowed by FDA - like bug parts.
