Welcome to this week's edition of Watch this Space.

Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation / Children’s Health Foundation

Last Thursday, 9th February the Governor signed the Executive Council Minute for the amalgamation of the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Children’s Health Foundation Qld. This was gazetted on Friday, 10th February.  So from Monday, 13 February we have changed our name to Children’s Health Foundation.  Though our name has changed our job certainly hasn’t its business as usual working wonders for sick kids at the RCH, investing in medical research, vital equipment and providing family and patient support through our entertainment and volunteer services.

Policy and Procedure Reminder

In recent weeks across a few of our services, volunteers have arrived for their shift wearing incorrect footwear.
It is extremely important and non negotiable that staff and volunteers within the hospital environment dress to the standard required, which includes footwear.

Below is an extract from our General Policy and Procedures which covers all our volunteers on Footwear.

If you have any concerns or issues around this policy please talk to your Supervisor, Manager or GM Hospital Services.

Footwear

The hospital requires that staff and volunteers who work or transit though clinical areas must wear fully enclosed footwear (heel and toe).  Wearing appropriate footwear in the workplace minimises the risk of injury through crush, sharps, and slip and fall incidents.

  • It is mandatory for volunteers in Parents in Theatre, Information Desk, Cuddle Carers, Pet Therapy, Massage, Child Community Health Centres and the Wonder Factory to wear fully enclosed shoes.
  • It is preferred that Foundation, and Special Projects volunteers also wear fully enclosed shoes.  Please see your supervisor or manager for specific requirements.
  • Platform shoes over 4cm in height, thongs and stiletto style footwear are not allowed whilst volunteering anywhere in the hospital.

Volunteers with foot injuries, general or ongoing medical conditions e.g. painful bunions, must consult a member of the Hospital Services team, before undertaking work with the affected foot exposed.  If you arrive on shift wearing incorrect footwear you may be sent home.  If it continues to happen you will be sent home.
