Get Involved

Weekly update, 29 January 2010

In this week's Watch This Space you will find information on where we need your help, comings and goings, along with Kim Clijsters' generous donation to help sick kids!

This week we look at Kim Clijsters's wonderful contribution, comings and goings, help needed in the Book Bunker and the Woolworths Race Day , RCHF job opportunity, along with your ever fascinating yet useless, fact of the week.

Kim Clijsters serves an ace for sick kids

Kim Clijsters has always been considered an adopted Aussie, but she now holds an even more special place in the heart of Brisbanites after donating her $37,000 winner's cheque from the Brisbane International to the Royal Children's Hospital Foundation.

Kim visited with the kids and was touched by their struggle. Many of the children she visited were younger than her own 23-month-old daughter, Jada.

Comings and Goings

This week we welcome Kierra Champion, Madeleine Thorburn and Carly Liddell to the Wonder Factory crew.

Join the Book Bunker Team

We are still looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have a love of books and reading who would like to join the Book Bunker Team.

The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation provides a wide range of entertainment opportunities for sick kids and their families at the Royal Children’s Hospital and this includes a lending library. The “Book Bunker” is attached to our Wonder Factory and is operated by a team of volunteers who have a library and or early childhood background.

The Book Bunker is a joint project with Scholastic, who have donated around 2000 books to start our library, and will continue to supply us with new books every month. Patients, families and children attending the RCH School are able to borrow books directly from the Book Bunker or from the daily trolley visiting the wards.

We aim to have the Book Bunker open seven days a week and we will require qualified and/or experienced volunteers to manage this service every day.

The minimum commitment for a volunteer is one shift each week or fortnight. Our aim is to establish a team of several qualified and/or experienced library volunteers who will be instrumental in the success of this project.

I hope this has given you a glimpse into our Book Bunker service. If you are able to be of any assistance we would be most grateful. Please contact Jodi Stewart on 3636 3674 or via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
